  Economists say Canada is back into recession, with no growth in first half of this year. Bank of Canada is now expected to raise interest rates in Sept.       

FEDERAL ELECTION 2015: 78-day campaign; election is October 19. Sooke and Colwood are now in Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke (formerly Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca). Candidates are incumbent Randall Garrison, MP (NDP); Frances Litman (Green); Shari Lukens (Conservative); David Merner (Liberal); and Josh Steffler (Libertarian).   Langford is now in new riding of Cowichan-Malahat-Langford which includes Duncan, Lake Cowichan, Highlands, Langford. Candidates are Paul Cortens (Libertarian); Fran Hunt-Jinnouchi (Green); Alistair MacGregor (NDP); and Maria Manna (Liberal).


   Fishing in streams and rivers is banned on Vancouver Island (Aug 4 to Sept 30)  CRD may consider more water conservation requirements in municipal areas if the summer continues so dry (already Stage 3 for Juan de Fuca rural area and the Gulf Islands). Level 4 Drought conditions continue on Vancouver Island (July 3 to present); no fishing in streams or rivers   Campfires banned for all of Vancouver Island  as of noon July 8; CSA-approved BBQs ok with briquettes, propane; lifted July 14 only for the Fog Zone  Metchosin has banned all fires, including beach fires (as of June 15)  Construction of Hwy1/McKenzie-Admirals interchange and Westshore Parkway Extension to begin later in 2016 and take 2 years to complete. Construction of new athletic training facility in Langford to begin in 2016
